Society is facing increasing pressure to incorporate sustainability objectives into their practice. In comparing two products/designs it is often not apparent which one is more sustainable. The workshop introduces concepts and method for determining the net environmental, economic, and social impacts of an engineering technology or process. Specific topics include life cycle analysis and impact assessment. This is a hand-on workshop and is suitable for participants interested in developing practical skills. By the end of the workshop, participants will have an awareness of analytical tools/resources for evaluating sustainability employing a systems perspective. In addition, we will have teams addressing some of the major techno-environment issues facing society today.
