As the Head of Environmental Protection and Regeneration for Red Sea Global (RSG), Dr.
Omar is focused on leading Environmental Sustainability functions, providing technical and
managerial expertise, and overseeing the operations and execution of key core services and
support functions in the field of environmental protection and enhancement.

For the Conservation of Coral Reefs and Turtles in the Red Sea, Dr. Omar is a passionate
environmentalist with extensive experience in management and operations. His focus is to
develop and lead collaboratively the implementation of environmental and sustainable
strategies, programs, and action plans to ensure an environmental regenerative approach for
the RSG's Project.
Dr. Omar's professional career began as a professor in the Civil and Environmental
Engineering Department at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). In 2017,
his career shifted to environmental protection when he took up the position of Assistant Vice
President for Environmental Affairs at The General Authority of Meteorology and
Environmental Protection (GAMEP). His role was to ensure effective management and
operations to better meet the strategic goals as well as the oversight of key initiatives and
projects.
In 2019, he was promoted to be the Vice President for Environmental Affairs at GAMEP and
appointed Chairman of The Permanent Committee for the Protection of Coastal Areas. During
his five years at the Authority, Dr. Omar simultaneously took up the mantle of General
Supervisor of the Saudi National Ozone Unit (NOU) and the National Focal Point. He was also
a Board member of the Saudi Energy Efficiency Center and General Supervisor of the coastal
zones rehabilitation projects within the United Nations compensation program for the effects
of the Gulf War. Additionally, he was a representative within the Kingdom's delegation at the
meeting of the World Maritime Organization (the International Fund for Oil Pollution
Compensation), the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, and the
United Nations Environment General Assembly (UNEA).
Prior to joining TRSDC, Dr. Omar was Deputy CEO and Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) at the
National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC) in 2020, where he was directly
responsible for overseeing the strategy, quality management and operational excellence
department as well as indirect oversight of the center's other departments.
Dr. Omar obtained a bachelor's degree of Science in Civil Engineering from KFUPM in 2000
and went on to achieve his Master of Science in Environmental Engineering at the same
institute. Dr. Omar's further studies took him to Canada, where he graduated from the
University of Ottawa in 2012 with a PhD in Environmental Engineering. Recently, he graduated
from the 2030 Leaders MISK program in 2022ز
