Dr. Lana El Chaar

VP Talent Management & Capability Building, ACWA Power

Biography

Dr. Lana El Chaar is currently the VP of Talent Management & Capability Building at ACWA Power.  Her main role is to grow talents, empower women in leadership roles and develop ACWA Power future leaders.   Prior to this role, Dr. Lana was the Vice President (VP) of the Center of Excellence at NOMAC. She led the implementation of a strategic transformation portfolio to drive operational efficiencies, whilst supporting NOMAC's and ACWA Power's growth aspirations. In that current role, Dr. Lana and her team provided support in terms of engineering subject matter expertise, digitalization, benchmarking, innovation, lessons learned and integrated management systems that enabled NOMAC Operations Excellence.
 
Prior to NOMAC, Dr. Lana was affiliated with General Electric Power Services where she held many positions globally and locally. Her experience is vast, from a global position where she headed the digital services team for GE power customers and earlier to the MEA region.  She was also the VP in the GE digital customer success organization leading the Americas team for power, oil and gas and manufacturing. Her main objectives were to serve all business units and focus on the implementation, customization, and integration of various digital solutions to meet client needs and drive outcomes. 
She is very proud to be assigned to deliver the first Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) GE solution in MEA to enhance energy efficiency and plant reliability.  
 
Prior to joining the industrial world, Dr. Lana was affiliated with many academic institutions where she heavily focused on research and publications. She was the Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Education, Power System & Apparatus Education (2010-2012).  She concentrated on the renewable energy area, solar and wind in addition to how to integrate this new field in the education world through research.  
 
Dr. Lana has been featured as one of "the most trailblazing women to watch in business in 2022" in The Women Achiever , December 2022. Dr.  Lana is the recipient of the Women In New Energy Award 2022 "Technology leader of the Year" awarded by Firstview Intelligent Business and Technology transfer Award 2020 from Electric Power Research Institute.   Moreover, Dr. Lana is part of a consortium that have an approved US Patent number (patent number: 20180356151)

Dr. Lana Received her BSEE, MSEE and Ph.D. from the University in Minnesota (U of M), USA in Electrical Engineering, Power electronics.  Lana is married to Abdul and has 2 daughters, Alaa (24) and Basmala (21), and 1 son Sami (18).
